Gingerbread tiramisu with orange

Gingerbread tiramisu with orange

The combination of soft gingerbread, delicate mascarpone cream and fruity orange makes this tiramisu the perfect Christmas dessert. Instead of the classic coffee and cocoa powder, the focus is on Christmas spices and fresh orange flavour.

The base for this recipe are the soft gingerbread bars from my blog, which together with a mascarpone cream, orange jam and orange slices create the tiramisu. If you are still looking for a dessert for Christmas dinner, this recipe is perfect because you can make a delicious dessert for many people with little effort.

You can make the orange jam for the tiramisu yourself or use bought jam for it. When making orange jam, however, you must make sure that it does not become too bitter. If you are not a fan of a light bitter note, you should not use the whole orange with its skins, but only the pulp. To do this, simply fillet the orange to remove the pulp from the white, slightly bitter skins.

To build the tiramisu start with a layer of thin gingerbread bars on the bottom.

Then sprinkle some honey water on the ginerbread to soften it up a little bit.

Spread half of the mascarpone cream onto the gingerbread.

Put some orange jam on the cream.

Continue with another layer of gingerbread sparkled with honey water.

At the end spread the rest of the mascarpone cream onto the gingerbread.

After you have finished layering the tiramisu, you should leave it in the refrigerator for a few hours so that everything can rest. Before eating it, you can cover it with thinly sliced orange pieces or sprinkle some cinnamon on it.

If you don’t want to serve the tiramisu in the classic form, you can also arrange it perfectly in a glass. I simply used a preserving jar, which is actually intended for jams. You can follow exactly the same steps when you arrange the tiramisu in the glass as when you layer it in a long form.

The recipe is sufficient for 8 people as dessert. The tiramisu should be stored in the fridge until it is consumed.

You can find the recipe for the super soft gingerbread bars here:

Soft gingerbread bars flavoured with orange zest. They are the perfect base for this tiramisu and much better than bought gingerbread!

You can also make these airy-crispy gingerbread macaroons from these gingerbread bars together with only 3 other ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 batch of the recipe: soft gingerbread bars (linked above)
  • 1 orange to decorate cut into 2,5 cm thick slices

mascarpone cream:

  • 3 eggs
  • 100 g sugar
  • 250 g mascarpone
  • 350 ml cream beaten

orange jam:

  • 1 orange
  • 25 ml water
  • 2 tbsp sugar

Honigwasser:

  • 50 ml water
  • 1 tbsp honey

Instructions

  • Make the gingerbread bars of the recipe or use bought ones. You only need half of the bars of the recipe for this tiramisu.
  • Warm the eggs with the sugar in a water bath. Always stir and heat everything up to 83 degrees Celsius so that the egg does not stick. Then beat the mixture in a cool container until it reaches room temperature.
  • Mix carefully the mixture with the mascarpone and fold in the beaten cream.
  • For the jam, briefly boil the peeled orange with water and sugar until the flesh gets soft. If you do not want a slight bitter note in the jam, you must use the pulp without the white skins. Simply fillet the orange and use only the fillets.
  • The longer you cook the jam, the mot bitter it gets. So don't cook it to long and then mix it in a mixer.
  • For the honey water mix honey and water and heat it up a little bit.
  • Layering the tiramisu: First layer of halved gingerbread slices, spread with some honey water, half of the mascarpone cream and some of the orange jam on top, another layer of gingerbread moistened with honey water and finally spread with the other half of the cream.
  • Store the tiramisu in the fridge and before you eat it, you can decorate it with thin orange slices or sprinkle it with cinnamon.
  • The recipe works also perfect to make a dessert in a glass.
